Usage
Overview
- Create one or more slides in PowerPoint
- Use the exporter to create EAOG templates
- Make sure that powerpoint is open with the file you want to convert into EOAG template(s)
- Double click on “EOAG” batch file within the bundle to launch the template exporter
- Check your output resolution requirement and then click ‘export’
- You can then step through each slide in the original presentation, change animation options and choose which ones to save as templates
- Add the templates to Easy On-Air Graphics
Create one or more slides in PowerPoint
- Be sure to change the page setup of your PowerPoint slide to be a custom aspect ration.
Normally Powerpoint is set up for computer screen resolution.
You will want likely want to set it for PAL or NTSC or another broadcast format
Note that you will want to calculate this in the real pixel size (e.g. PAL is 720px x 576px (say 25.4cm x 20.32cm) and NTSC is 720px x 486px (say 10in x 6.75in)

- You can add extra parts (e.g. a sample background image) to make it easier to compose – you can leave those out at the export stage

- While working with the file it may be helpful (as in the image above) to put real text in the placeholders.
- However it’s easier when working with the image to have the function of the text in the placeholders.
You can rename them during export if you like

- For each element you have in your powerpoint slide,
- the exporter will create a placeholder (to be replaced by some dynamic content when On Air)
- However you can change those to be static (kept the same all the time, like a background colour bar)
- Or you can remove them altogether (like a sample background image)
- You can create mulitple slides in order to create multiple templates at the same time
- Leave your powerpoint presentation open and then use the exporter to create EAOG templates
Use the exporter to create EAOG templates
- Make sure that powerpoint is open with the file you want to convert into EOAG template(s)
- Double click on “EOAG” batch file within the bundle to launch the template exporter
- The first window will show the “Import current powerpoint presentation” window.
Check your resolution requirement (PAL, NTSC, etc.)

- Click ‘Import’ to start the process of converting the powerpoint slides into a format usable by EOAG.
- The “Importing from powerpoint” progress bar will appear
This will take a few seconds (depending on the size of your file).
Don’t use powerpoint while this is happening as you could interfere with the conversion.

- The main export window then appears:

Parts of the Export window
The top of the window gives the name given to the current template
and gives you controls to step through the other slides (if there are any).

At the bottom there are the actual exporting tools –
You can change the directory to which the template is exported (This is remembered between launches – you want this to be your EOAG templates directory)
And you can change the name of the template (by default based on the name of the presentation and the slide number, but you can change the output name in the bottom)

In between the top and the bottom are the area on the left for previewing the effects of the template:

Note that if the window is too small the preview is scaled down to fit, but if the window is large enough, there will be a black background and the
template graphics will be shown “actual size”
You can preview the out and in effects by clicking “Out” and “In”. The effect, as it will occur onscreen appears.
You can also choose what to have as the default background – Black, White, or Checkerboard.
(However in our example we have an image there which needs to be removed first… See below).
Next to the preview window on the right side of the window are all the controls for generating the template

Each tab has a discrete use:
- In-Out specifies the Slide Animation for that slide
- Layers has the individual settings for layers on this slide
- Editable fields has the ordering and naming for the fields – the dynamic content that is replaced for the placeholder content when On Air.
- Global Animation Settings has the default settings for animation across all slides – these can be overridden in various spaces.
In-Out Tab (Slide animation settings)

- If the “Use global settings” is on, then the Slide is animated according to the settings on the last tab.
- To specify the settings for this slide only uncheck that checkbox and adjust the settings below:
- The Animation option gives a number of styles for the animation in/ out
- The Duration gives the length of time (in seconds) that the movement should take
- Fade specifies the amount of time over which the to fade out
Layers Tab (Visibility and animation settings)
In this tab you can set the visibility and animation settings for individual layers.
Each object in Powerpoint – whether an image, a shape or a textbox is imported separately.
A layer my be hidden totally by unchecking the “visible” checkbox. This is the appropriate thing to to do with the sample background and any thing else which never should be on air.

Clicking the name of a visible layer causes it to flash (this helps in identifying a layer in a complicated template)
Any visible layer may be editable – in which case it is in the “Editable Fields”
(meaning there will be a space for the actual content – whether image or text – to be specified during use of the template in EOAG.)

Every visible layer can be individually animated. (If it is not animated then it appears together as part of the slide animation.)

The start time for an animated layer is calculated by the delay of all the events before it (slide animation, other layer animations)
plus a delay for that animation. You can change the delay for all layers in the “Global Animation Settings” tab or you can
change it for an individual layer by unchecking the “Use global settings” tab and specifying it.

Text animations have a complex set of movement styles (dropdown) and a length which is a per-character amount of animation

Shape or picture animations have a simple set of movement styles (dropdown) and a duration in seconds for the movement.
Editable fields Tab

In this tab you can change the names of the fields, as they will appear in EOAG. By default text fields are given names based on their content, but shapes are given simple numeric fields.
It will help the EOAG operator to have intelligible field names. You can also change the order in which they appear, using the up and down buttons.
To preview what this will look like to the EOAG operator use the “Show edit folder” button.
Global Animation Settings Tab

In the global animation settings tab you can set the defaults for slide animation and text and shape layer animation.
Any of these settings may be overridden for a particular slide or layer.
Export
- You can then press export and check them in EOAG.
(You can also continue to step through each slide using the buttons in the top bar, change animation options and save that slide as a template)
Add the templates to Easy On-Air Graphics
The templates should appear (automatically?) in EOAG. (screenshot required)
